About Us

The idea for Rapid Gasket was borne out of CEO & Founder Glenn Edwards' frustration as a mechanical engineer. Like many engineers in the product development field, he was in search of a source that could provide small-run, custom prototype gaskets at a reasonable price, in a timely manner, without high-quantity ordering requirements. He needed a way to provide his customers with the gaskets they required in a fast and affordable way, without having to cut them by hand with an exacto knife.

And so, the concept for Rapid Gasket was born. . . 

Glenn Edwards, CEO & Founder
As CEO and Founder of Rapid Gasket, Glenn Edwards is both an entrepreneur and engineer and enjoys bringing technical teams together to solve challenges in the automation and life science markets. He started working on the idea for Rapid Gasket in 2005 in his spare time and began working full-time with Rapid Gasket in 2007. Glenn has over 25 years of experience in the field of engineering working with companies including Westinghouse Electric, IDEO, Greenleaf Medical, Inc. and LJL Biosystems. In 2000, Glenn created Glenn Edwards Engineering and consulted with companies like Lighthouse Instruments, Sonata Biosciences, Inc. and Apieron. In 2007, Glenn began working with Rapid Gasket full-time. Glenn received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force. He holds a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a Master's in Engineering Systems from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California.

Lorne Bechtel, CTO & Partner
Lorne Bechtel, CTO and partner, was an embedded software developer who specialized in C++ programming as well as a Linux enthusiast and advocate in his spare time. As a 37-year veteran of the software programming field, his main expertise was in software development for medical devices. Lorne joined Rapid Gasket in November 2005 and in 2008 he began working full-time for Rapid Gasket. Prior to Rapid Gasket Lorne worked for companies such as Canadian Pipeline, The Alberta Research Counsel, Tektronix, Varian, Visx and LJL Biosystems as well as various other Silicon Valley startups. Lorne held a Bachelor of Science in Computing Science from the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta Canada. Lorne Bechtel passed away in September of 2009.

Marie Bechtel, COO & Partner
Marie Bechtel joined Rapid Gasket as COO and partner to Glenn in October 2009. Since 1992 Marie has been working in Santa Clara County as a family law attorney and since 1998 she has been a partner with Hoover & Bechtel Law Office. Marie has been a guest speaker and lecturer at the Santa Clara University Law School, family law class and Evergreen Valley College Paralegal Program. She has presented Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) programs and continues to participate on various legal boards and committees in Santa Clara County. She is a contributing author for CEB, Dividing Pensions and other Employee Benefits in California Divorces. Prior to her career as an attorney, Marie was employed as a social worker for the Province of Alberta, primarily working in the area of child welfare. Marie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta Canada and holds a Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, California.

Amelia Vierra, Director of Marketing
Amelia Vierra joined the Rapid Gasket team in 2009 as Director of Marketing to help with the promotion of the company. Prior to Rapid Gasket, Amelia worked in the field of public relations for a high-tech public relations agency in San Jose. While there Amelia gained experience executing strategic PR campaigns for B2B, Web 2.0 and consumer facing clients in various fields of technology. Amelia holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from San Jose State University, San Jose, California. 

Jeanne Ruiz, Software Development Engineer
Jeanne Ruiz joined the Rapid Gasket team as a software development engineer in 2009. Jeanne brought with her extensive experience in software development, concept formation, planning, code generation and maintenance, and much more for the medical device field. Jeanne is proficient in software languages such as C#, C++, Algol, Pascal, and Assemblers and is also able to develop across numerous platforms including Linux, Windows, UNIX, and more. Previously, Jeanne has worked with companies such as BD Biosciences, Molecular Devices Corporation, LJL Biosystems, Gandolf Electronics, Abbott Critical Care and Control Systems, Imatron, ADAC Laboratories, and Quadrex. Jeanne holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Santa Clara, Santa Clara, California and has participated in further professional development coursework through the USCS extension program in object oriented information modeling, state and process modeling, recursive design and functional decomposition methodologies, formal test inspection methodologies, and MFC, C++, and Web Design (HTML, DreamWeaver, Web Site Design Methodology and Technology).

Jerry W. Rice, Software Development Engineer

Jerry W. Rice joined Rapid Gasket in 2009 with over three decades of experience in software engineering, design, project management, technical writing, research, training, team development, problem solving, planning, and successful execution of product development and support activities. For the past two decades he has worked as an independent consultant for various Bay Area high-tech corporate organizations in their engineering and product development related activities including FABNexus, Inc., Integral Software Consulting Services, Inc., PemStar Pacific, Inc., ThermaWave Corporation, GAP Incorporated, Genus Corporation, Applied Materials, Inc. and more. Jerry holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management from the University of San Francisco, San Francisco, California and has participated in other professional-development oriented course-work at Stanford University, San Jose State University, University of Texas (UTA), and University of New Mexico.

Lewis H. Edwards, Tool and Die Shop Foreman
Lewis H. Edwards joined the Rapid Gasket team in 2009 and was immediately responsible for getting the company's tool and die shop up and running- starting with nothing more than a set of catalogs. The tool and die shop supports production with tooling, fixture fabrication and production-machine setup and repair. Lew comes from a welding and fabrication background, has CNC machine experience and, with his extensive background in industry, was able to put together a tool and die shop on a lean budget and with minimal supervision.
